CHOOSING THE RIGHT PLUS SIZE WEDDING SUIT

For those who would like to find the right groom’s suit to appear slimmer , hide their belly, or simply something adapted to your strong and/or tall body type, here are my tips.

If you are stocky, avoid horizontal stripes or checks, the same goes if you are a little overweight, because these kinds of patterns tend to widen the silhouette.

If you have curves in the stomach, choose a straight cut and not a fitted cut.

Be aware that suits with a satin finish tend to catch the light and widen the silhouette. If you want to look slimmer, opt for a matte wedding suit.

To ensure that your pants fit your size, the pockets must be snug, without opening (which would mean the pants are too tight)

If you have a curvy figure, prefer collars with angles like the swallow collar for example.

Bright colors tend to catch the eye and broaden the silhouette, while black absorbs light and slims… but no one said to deprive yourself of fantasy, especially on your wedding day! So, if you like color, choose deep tones but not too bright, such as: burgundy, plum, fir green, bottle green, royal blue, etc. The green groom’s suit is also very elegant and trendy this year.

Tips for choosing your wedding suit when you’re older?

For future brides and grooms who have difficulty finding the right suit suited to their size, here are my tips for choosing a wedding suit when you are tall :

Pay attention to the way the jacket hangs, particularly around the middle. This is the basics, because the shoulder hang is one of the only parts of the costume that cannot be altered. It is therefore decisive for the rest of the fitting of your plus size wedding suit.

If you are very athletic and want to slim down your build, do not choose a jacket with too much padding (padding at shoulder level)

If you are very tall and thin, prefer a wedding suit with a straight cut to thicken your silhouette.

A good length pair of pants should only have one crease that breaks over the shoe. If this crease is not present, the pants are too short. If, on the other hand, your pants have two or more pleats, they must be reduced in length.

If you are tall, with a slightly lean and angular body shape, opt for the rounded Italian collar, which will add softness to your look.

If you have a massive build, avoid the 4-button double-breasted jacket which visually accentuates the width (the trend is currently not for this style of jacket, but it could well come back!)

Where to buy your plus size suit for your wedding?

For those who want to find the right wedding suit for plus sizes , three options are available to you:

Made-to-measure or semi-made  : If you have the budget, made-to-measure or semi-made is a good idea, but the bill can be a little expensive in the end.

Specialized large size stores : If you want the best value for money, I advise you to turn to specialized stores who will advise you and offer you very advanced alternatives. They know the large size customer very well with their constraints and specificities. They will offer you an alteration service so that the suit fits your body perfectly.

Standard stores : Sometimes, certain standard stores offer lines of large size suits to complete their usual collection with special lines for tall, strong, athletic men, etc.
